Noble Machines Exits Stealth with $180M and a Humanoid Built for Dirty Jobs
US startup Noble Machines emerged from stealth in March 2026 with $180M in combined seed and Series A funding and Noble-1, a humanoid engineered for construction, mining and outdoor industrial work. Rated IP67 and running from -25°C to +55°C, it uses hybrid hydraulic-electric actuation and carries up to 40 kg. A previously unknown robotics company called Noble Machines emerged from stealth on March 10, 2026, disclosing $180 million in combined seed and Series A funding and a humanoid robot platform designed for applications where current competitors explicitly don't compete: construction sites, mining operations and outdoor industrial environments.
Every major humanoid announced to date — Figure 02, Agility Digit, Tesla Optimus, Unitree G1 — is designed for controlled indoor spaces with IP54 splash resistance and 5–40°C operating ranges. Noble argues that construction, mining and outdoor utilities represent about $4.2 trillion in annual global labor spend and are almost entirely unaddressed.
The Noble-1 is deliberately over-engineered for durability: IP67 rated (submersible to 1 m for 30 minutes), an operating range of -25°C to +55°C, 25 kg payload in the hands and up to 40 kg with a leg-assist carry mode, standing 1.82 m and weighing 95 kg. It uses hydraulic actuation for the lower body and electric actuation for upper-body manipulation, with a 3-hour runtime and 90-second fast battery swaps.
The founding team's construction and heavy-industry background distinguishes Noble from the AI-lab-spinout pattern of most humanoid startups: CEO James Okafor came from Caterpillar's autonomous equipment division, CTO Dr. Yuki Matsumoto spent six years on Boston Dynamics' locomotion team, and CPO Carla Reinholt hails from Trimble and McKinsey's construction practice. Investors include Caterpillar Ventures, Bechtel Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, DCVC and Robert Bosch Venture Capital.
Noble plans a Q4 2026 pilot deploying 20 units at Bechtel bridge and commercial building projects, targeting commercial availability in 2027 at $95,000–$120,000 per unit. Analysts caution that reliable outdoor locomotion in real construction conditions is a very hard robotics problem — easy to claim, hard to execute.
