Agibot Officially Launches Mass Production of A2 Humanoid Robot

Shanghai-based Agibot, one of China's fastest-growing humanoid robotics startups, has officially launched mass production of its A2 humanoid robot at a newly constructed smart manufacturing facility in Shanghai's Lingang Special Area. The production line is designed to produce up to 3,000 units annually in its initial phase, with plans to scale to 10,000 units by 2027.

The A2 is a general-purpose humanoid robot standing 1.75 meters tall and weighing 55 kilograms. It features 40 degrees of freedom across its body, including highly dexterous hands with 12 degrees of freedom each, enabling it to perform complex manipulation tasks such as using tools, opening doors, and handling delicate objects. The robot is powered by an onboard AI system that combines vision-language models with real-time motion planning.

Agibot's founder, Peng Zhihui — a former Huawei 'Genius Youth' engineer who gained fame as a DIY robotics influencer — has positioned the company at the intersection of AI and affordable hardware. The A2 is priced at approximately 200,000 RMB (roughly $28,000), making it one of the most cost-competitive humanoid robots on the market.

The initial production batch will be deployed in three primary verticals: elderly care facilities, where the A2 assists with medication reminders, companionship, and light housework; smart manufacturing factories for material handling and quality inspection; and retail environments for customer service and inventory management. Agibot has already secured pre-orders from over 30 enterprise customers.

The launch of mass production marks a significant milestone for China's humanoid robotics industry, which has received substantial government support through initiatives like the 'Humanoid Robot Innovation Development Action Plan.' Agibot's achievement positions China as a serious contender in the global race to commercialize humanoid robots.
